Adobe Firefly AI Upgrades (Structure Reference)

Sponsored by

Welcome to this week’s edition of Architecture Insights. A weekly newsletter on artificial intelligence for architects, landscape architects, and designers.

DALL-E 3 releases custom features right into ChatGPT and Adobe Firefly keeps adding AI image features, this time a structure reference feature that lets you copy the formation buildings and landscapes and apply the same shape/formation to a new image.

This Week in AI

1. New updates to DALL-E 3 let you customize your images right in your ChatGPT conversation.

Highlight the area of an image you want to edit, as shown below (in blue), then prompt again with your new request for that area.

This is similar to the vary region tool in midjourney but with the convenience of being built right into ChatGPT (for premium subscribers only, unfortunately).

2. Claude 3 ranks as the #1 chatbot.

Since GPT-4 was released it has been ranked the #1 AI chatbot, until recently. The Claude 3 Opus model developed by Anthropic has secured the top spot on the LMSYS Chatbot Arena Leaderboard.

You can see the publically voted leaderboard here. The platform used is named Hugging Face, an open, crowdsourced platform used to evaluate AI models.

Firefly AI Features

Structure Reference

You can access these new features on the web or mobile versions of Firefly.

Below is a set of images we generated first without and then with the structure reference feature to show the differences.

Our prompt was: A modern university campus library with a focus on architectural features like parametric design.

The photo hits most of the spots besides the parametric features.

We can use a reference image of a highly parametric building and get a more accurate result.

Here is the image we will use as a reference, it was generated in Midjourney.

Upload it to Firefly and set your level of strength.

We left ours on the default level.

Here are the results after applying the reference:

&

These are all high-quality images and make a resemblance to both our original image and our reference image.

It will be interesting to see how other AI image generating apps like Midjourney and DALL-E apply similar features.
